What is Bassin Bleu?

Bassin Bleu is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Haiti. It’s also a popular Haitian tourist destination located just west of the southern commune of Jacmel.

This rich and scenic body of water offers some of the most breathtaking views of Haiti’s many tropical landscapes.

The basin is surrounded by lush green vegetation, natural cliff formations, and streaming waterfalls.

Depending on the time of day, the water will often reflect a light or dark shade of turquoise (greenish-blue).

Visitors can swim in the water, climb on top of the cliffs and enjoy the refreshing feeling of this tropical place.

Tourists relish jumping off the cliffs down into the water below. Many often capture their unique experience with a GoPro camera or smartphone selfie stick.

Four other bodies of water are also near Bassin Bleu.

This includes Bassin Yes, Palmiste, Clair , and Cheval. Cheval is the shallowest at approximately 2.74 meters (9 ft.) deep, while Clair is the most submerged at approximately 22.86 meters (75 ft.) deep.

Each water basin offers its distinct look and feel, so feel free to visit as many as possible during your trip to the main attraction.

Hidden in the outskirts of Jacmel’s sprawling urban center, the basin has maintained most of its natural beauty without much interference from outside development.

It is also conveniently located just 96.5 km (60 mi.) southwest of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
